Latitude 2100

What is it?
  • Latitude 2100 is a Netbook by Dell that is designed for students both in and out of the classroom. It has a rubberized design that makes it more kid friendly and easier to carry. It also offers wireless connectivity that can be monitored by the teacher An optional touchscreen is a first for an education netbook and makes the Latitude 2100 a perfect choice for enhanced student interaction, assessment, and for special education teaching.

How can you use it?
  • If each student had a netbook he/she could begin a writing assignment or a project at school and continue to work on it at home.
  • During a class period, students could do research at their desks and type any assignment.
  • If students had a netbook of their own, they would not have to share computer time with their family members to do school work.

Why would you use it?
  • Students would benefit from using the Latitude 2100 because it is designed to be used by students. The teacher can monitor student work and that would hold the students accountable. The touchscreen would allow for students with special needs to also use a netbook. It may also motivate students since so many of them use computers at home.
  • Pros- If each student had his/her own netbook there would not be the scheduling conflicts of a computer lab. Also, the design of this model makes it harder to damage so if students dropped or banged it there would not be damage.
  • Cons- If students were required to purchase one some families may not be able to afford one. If students were issued one, it would be a large cost.
  • NETS 1-6
